Ethics

At Recanati e Restauro we believe that collaborative work is not possible without decolonising and re-imagining traditional pedagogies. All our courses are intended to center the participants, and their unique cultural and professional contexts. We know that the conservation of heritage is a complex field, and knowledge comes in many forms and from many sources. We envision this as a shared space, where participants and instructors bring their diverse experiences and journeys, and enrich each other’s practice.

For that, we work towards:

  1. Kindness and generosity in listening, and making space for others.
  2. Being inclusive and affirming of people regardless of religion, race, region, age, ability, gender, and sexual orientation.
  3. Making space for mistakes, disagreements, and differences of opinion.
  4. Being open to feedback, and self-reflexivity.
We hope to nurture connections between conservators across the world, and commit ourselves to growing and evolving as we do.
